TEASER
FADE IN.
CLOSE UP on an enormous monitor taking up the entire wall. A
still image of Connor is showing.
REPORTER (V.O.)
(male)
TMZ has reported that the offer for
information on the whereabouts of
Connor Angel has been rescinded.
PULL AWAY to a computer terminal below it. An unseen figure,
hidden by the high back of their chair, feverishly types
away.
INT. UNKNOWN HOME - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
TITLE OVER: READING, PENNSYLVANIA
PAN ACROSS a couch, following a pair of legs until a STOP at
the head of a dozing REBEKAH GRANT, a.k.a. BRIDGET REILLY,
now seventeen years old.
The room is dark aside from the light of the television
playing the same report in the background.
Rebekah is on her stomach with one arm hanging off the couch.
REPORTER (V.O.)
The originator of the reward,
Oliver Pike, released a statement
saying Mr. Angel has been located
in San Francisco.
INSERT - A slender finger capped with a decorative red fake
nail hits the 'enter' key on the terminal.
Rebekah's eyes SNAP open.
EXT. SKY - DAY
A sleek PRIVATE JET streaks across the daytime sky.
INT. PRIVATE JET - PASSENGER CABIN - NEXT
PAN ACROSS the jet's interior, resembling a lavish
condominium. Leather everything. Two large flat screen
televisions built into the front walls. Mini bar in the back.
Something only pretentious wealthy people blow money on.
CONNOR and GABRIELLA sit next to one another, both fast
asleep. His head rests on her shoulder, her head on top of
his head. He lightly snores.
DARE, wearing a splint on her dislocated wrist, walks past
them and takes a seat across from PIKE and KAIA. Pike's
listening to an MP3 player while Kaia checks her cell phone's
voicemail.
DARE
(to Kaia)
Question.
Kaia looks up and waves her hand in a circle, motioning for
Dare to continue. Dare nods her head towards Connor and
Gabriella.
DARE
What's with the two of them? Are
they-
Kaia tries to stifle a laugh, but a small snort manages to
escape.
KAIA
(whispering)
Oh God no, and don't let either of
them hear you insinuate that.
Especially her.
DARE
They just seem a little cozy for...
friends.
(beat)
And I don't get waves like that off
two people unless they're screwing
or related. Or both.
KAIA
Waves?
DARE
The emotions other people project
on me, but 'emotions' is too many
syllables, so I call 'em waves.
Kaia smiles and shakes her head before putting her phone back
to her ear.
KAIA
(not looking up)
You and Oli are gonna get along
just fine. Trust me, they're not-
She freezes. Her eyes widen. She hits a button on her phone
and puts it back to her ear while pointing to Connor and
Gabriella.
KAIA
(to Dare; stern)
Wake them up.
Dare opens her mouth to respond, but thinks better of it. She
steps over and shakes Connor and Gabriella awake.
Kaia rapidly taps Pike's shoulder. He removes his headphones.
GABRIELLA
(yawning)
Whoa, where's the fire?
Kaia turns to Pike, looking uncharacteristically unnerved.
KAIA
The Grants left me a voicemail.
Rebekah's missing.
Now Pike's eyes widen. He bolts from his seat.
PIKE
I'll get the pilot to change
course.
Connor and Gabriella watch Pike rush to the cockpit, sharing
the same confused expression. Then it hits them both at the
same time. Connor pops out of his seat, wide awake now.
CONNOR
Why aren't we there yet then?
EXT. GRANT FARM - DAY
Dare opts to wait in the rented SUV while the others walk to
the front door.
Pike lightly knocks on the door. Connor sneers and pounds on
the door until an unassuming, elderly couple open up. Meet
CHARLES and CHARLOTTE GRANT. They both look petrified.
PIKE
(nods to Charles)
Charlie.
(nods to Charlotte)
Charlie.
INT. GRANT FARM - LIVING ROOM - DAY
The Grants lead the way into the room. Everyone takes a seat
but Connor, who perches in a doorway with his arms crossed.
KAIA
(pointing in succession)
Darryn Monroe, Gabriella Heron, and
Connor Angel. This is Charles and
Charlotte Grant, Rebekah's
grandparents.
The already pale and nerve-racked grandparents turn even more
ashen when they both lay eyes on Connor, who rolls his eyes.
CONNOR
Uh-huh, I'm the fake brother. Pick
your jaws up and tell me where
Bridge is.
No answer from the Grants. Both hang their heads in... shame?
CHARLOTTE
(weak)
We're... we're so sorry.
GABRIELLA
Sorry about what?
Connor takes a step forward, agitated at the stalling.
CONNOR
Cut the crap. I want to know who
kidnapped my sister. Right. Now.
FEMALE VOICE (O.S.)
I did.
WHIP PAN to a hallway leading into the room-
- and PROFESSOR MICHELLE MARRUS!
PROFESSOR MARRUS
To get you all here.
Black energy swells around Marrus's arms before she FIRES a
bolt of dark energy.
BLACK OUT.
END OF TEASER
ACT ONE
FADE IN.
EXT. GRANT FARM - BACKYARD - EVENING
The back of the Grants' house EXPLODES as Connor, Gabriella,
Pike, and Kaia are blasted out of it. They twist and turn in
the air before landing halfway down the downward sloping hill
of the backyard.
They all roll around in pain for a brief moment before
getting up to their hands and knees.
KAIA
(gasping)
Marrus. It can't be her.
CONNOR
Felt pretty real to me.
GABRIELLA
(pushing herself up)
No, she's dead. Kaia and I killed
her.
(off Connor's face)
I hadn't gotten to that yet.
Marrus comes FLOATING out of the exit she just created.
Her skin has paled and splotchy black veins snake through
every bit of exposed skin on her body. Her eyes are jet
black. Her teeth are clenched. Hell on wheels.
Our core four form a line.
PAN ACROSS all four of them at the waistline.
Connor flicks out his wrist stakes. Yellow sparks of mystical
power flare up around Gabriella. Pike pulls out two guns and
cocks them. Kaia's hands sprout fur and her nails elongated
into razor sharp claws.
CONNOR
What the hell did you do to Bridge?
PROFESSOR MARRUS
Oh, she's fine. You four are the
ones I wanted.
Gabriella's had enough. She rears back and fires an attack of
her own. Marrus retaliates. The ground QUAKES when the two
waves of energy clash in midair.
The other three fan out. Pike opens fire with both guns, but
the bullets hit a dark forcefield surrounding Marrus. Kaia
and Connor race up the hill. They nod to one another before
Kaia finishes her werewolf shift.
She leaps at Marrus while Connor gets back to the farmhouse
and springs off what's left of the back wall.
Kaia reaches Marrus first, but the forcefield ELECTROCUTES
her, the energy suspending her in the air before she falls to
the ground in a smoking heap.
Connor hits the forcefield next. The same energy racks his
body. He screams, but hangs on. Marrus, still jockeying for
position with Gabriella's attack, has to crane her neck to
look at him as his eyes turn all white, then YELLOW.
Yellow energy builds around his arms as he tries to squeeze
the forcefield and pop it like a balloon. Marrus's eyes spark
and a second wave of energy shoots out of her back and blasts
Connor off of her.
No longer distracted, she takes a deep breath and pours more
energy into her first wave. It overwhelms Gabriella's, who
bravely holds her ground until she's blown away.
She spins through the air and smacks hip-first into one of a
forest of trees at the back of the yard.
A CAR ENGINE revs up off screen. Marrus whips her head to the
side to see Dare driving the SUV through the Grants' fence.
It gets to the top of the hill and goes airborne, smashing
into Marrus's forcefield and shattering it like a pane of
glass.
Marrus is knocked to the ground and skids several feet
through the dirt. Dare and the car land a second later.
Marrus backrolls to her hands and knees and looks at the car
with renewed rage. She fires another attack.
Dare swerves to avoid a direct hit. The blast hits the ground
behind her and knocks the car into a tumble down the hill.
Pike, cradling Kaia in his arms, sees the car roll past him.
PIKE
Darryn!
He glances down at Kaia.
KAIA
I'm fine, go.
Pike drops his guns and sprints down the hill as the car
lands upside down at the edge of the forest.
Marrus stumbles forward, shaken. She grabs both sides of her
head and groans in pain.
She YELPS in pain as a bullet hits her arm and spins her
around. Kaia, up on one knee, fires another shot and misses.
Connor dives into frame, tackling Marrus to the ground. She
rolls to her back and pops Connor in the chin with a black
magic energized BACKFIST.
Connor is knocked away, but he dives back in, raising his
wrist stake to deal a death blow.
Marrus's body SHIMMERS and vanishes! The stake plunges into
the ground where she just was.
Connor yanks it out and looks around for his prey, his
shoulders heaving up and down.
Gabriella, holding her hip, limps towards the car where Pike
is gently pulling Dare to safety. Dare moans, woozy and hurt.
Connor walks over and offers a hand to Kaia, helping her up.
INT. GRANT FARM - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Charles walks in with a handful of damp cloths. A PAN AROUND
the room shows Kaia patching up Dare's scratches and bruises,
Gabriella holding an ice pack to her hip, and Pike reloading
his guns.
Connor stomps over to Charlotte and slams his hands down on
the arms of the chair she's sitting in.
CONNOR
Give me one good reason why I
shouldn't beat the mothballs out of
you two fossils for setting us up.
GABRIELLA
(sharp)
Connor! Back off.
Gabriella limps over, past Dare who looks up at her, to
Connor and pulls him away by his arm. He stomps over to the
other end of the room and punches a HOLE in the wall.
Pause for a bit of awkward silence.
KAIA
(to Charles)
What happened, Charles?
CHARLES
Last night, we left Rebekah
sleeping on the couch. We heard her
scream and when we came out, she
was gone. An hour later, that woman-
GABRIELLA
Marrus.
CHARLES
(nodding)
Marrus shows up with a scrap from
the pajamas she had on. Said we had
to contact you all and get you here
or Rebekah was dead.
Our five swap looks.
GABRIELLA
That still doesn't explain how
she's back. Someone resurrected her
corpse?
PIKE
There was no corpse. Kaia and I
burned her body the same day you
and Connor disappeared.
GABRIELLA
Either way, if she was here so fast
after taking Rebekah and to attack
us just now, she has to be holding
Rebekah somewhere close by.
Connor, cradling the hand he hit the wall with, heads for the
door.
PIKE
Whoa, dude. We need a plan.
CONNOR
We find that bitch and kill her
again. And seven more times if
she's imitating a cat.
DARE
Even though she just kicked all of
our asses and we don't have another
car to throw at her?
Connor curls his upper lip at Dare.
CONNOR
You're new to this, so let me
explain. I see evil, I kick its
ass. I go home and have a beer or
ten. Lather, rinse, repeat. So get
a helmet or leave.
Connor storms out. Kaia throws her hands up and follows. Dare
looks around the room at those still remaining.
DARE
Anyone got a spare helmet?
EXT. GRANT FARM - EVENING
Wide angle shot frames Connor on one knee in front of the
house with the rapidly setting sun behind him.
Kaia comes up behind him and grabs his shoulder.
CONNOR
Picking up any scents?
KAIA
No and neither of us is going to.
We both know tracking only works
with a physical trail. She poofed
outta here, Connor. There's nothing
to follow.
Connor sighs and leans his head back. She's right and he
knows it.
KAIA
On top of that, my back is killing
me, Gabriella can barely walk, and
Darryn's a walking contusion...
CONNOR
I'm tired of sitting on my ass
reacting to everything. Marrus has
her and-
KAIA
- used her as bait to assault us.
She'll be back for round two.
Pike comes running out of the house. Connor points in his
direction and Kaia turns around. He stops running and waves
them back inside.
PIKE
Hey! You need to hear this.
INT. GRANT FARM - LIVING ROOM - NEXT
Everyone is huddled around a phone when Connor, Kaia, and
Pike return. Connor plops down next to Gabriella, who gives
his hand a gentle squeeze. He looks calmer, but not by much.
GABRIELLA
Alright, Marrus, we're all here.
MARRUS (O.S.)
(via speakerphone)
Good. I have no intention to drag
this out anymore than any of you.
CONNOR
(through clenched teeth)
Then come and bring it, Michelle.
You'll be on a rocket back to Hell
before Letterman starts tonight.
Marrus LAUGHS and that only pisses Connor off even more.
MARRUS (O.S.)
Come to the chemistry building at
Alvernia University. We're both
here, waiting.
CLICK. Marrus hangs up.
Charles gets up and leaves the room. A worried Charlotte
catches his arm, but he shrugs it off.
KAIA
How far is Alvernia from here?
CHARLOTTE
Maybe ten minutes?
Connor slaps his knees and stands.
CONNOR
Let's go.
DARE
Soo... we're just gonna waltz into
Magica De Spell's trap? Were you
born here or on the planet Retard?
Connor whirls on her and steps in her direction. Gabriella
stands to cut him off, but he holds his hand up, signaling
that he's cool.
CONNOR
Dare, we can plan and plot and
strategize all night, but all roads
end at the same place. Mindless,
senseless, brutal violence. So
let's skip to that part.
Off screen, a SHOTGUN is pumped. Everyone turns to Charles at
the other end of the room holding a double barrel.
CHARLES
I'm with the hothead. Let's go.
Pike steps up, hands in a defensive position.
PIKE
Whoa, Charlie. I appreciate the
urge to shoot things, but maybe you
better stay here.
CHARLES
That's my granddaughter, Oliver.
CONNOR
What my friend is trying to say is
in the heat of battle, antiques
like you tend to get smashed.
Pike whips around to face Connor, getting fed up with the
attitude.
PIKE
Dude! Dial it down.
GABRIELLA
No, tactlessness aside, he's right.
Kaia and I got lucky last time. I'm
sorry, Mr. Grant, but Marrus is way
too dangerous for you.
Charles sighs and lowers his gun.
CHARLES
I just want her back safe. She's
all I've got left of my daughter.
(to Pike; pointedly)
Promise me you'll bring her home.
Pike nods, albeit reluctantly.
EXT. ALVERNIA UNIVERSITY - CHEMISTRY BUILDING - NIGHT
Pike parks a pickup truck outside a two story building.
Connor, Gabriella, and Dare hop out the bed.
Connor makes a beeline for the building, leaving the others
in his dust. Pike jogs to catch up to him.
GABRIELLA
(to Dare)
So I put the Mark of Saa on her to
contain her powers.
KAIA
Oli and I checked in with the
Grants semi-frequently. The Mark
has held fine. Nice normal life
until now.
DARE
So why'd Marrus attack now?
KAIA
She said she'd been waiting for us.
Pike put out word that Connor was
found right before we left San
Fran. Guessing that was her cue.
CUT TO Pike getting to Connor just as he reaches the main
entrance.
CONNOR
Dude, if you're gonna bring up
needing a plan again...
Pike pushes the door shut.
PIKE
No, I'm telling you to kill the
lone wolf routine.
CONNOR
Bridge is not your sister, Pike.
Connor tries to open the door and Pike shuts it again.
PIKE
She's not yours, either. And her
name's Rebekah.
That seems to quell Connor's rage a bit. At this point, the
girls catch up to them. Connor grimly nods.
CONNOR
(softly)
Sorry.
PIKE
It's cool. Old habits die hard.
Now Pike opens the door. Everyone cautiously enters. Pike is
through last, drawing his guns as he steps through.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - FIRST FLOOR - NEXT
The hallway is darkened. We can make out a security desk in
front of a winding staircase to the second level and a set of
elevators off to the side.
Dare points towards the security desk. Everyone nods in
agreement and follows her there.
ON the panels of numbered monitors showing the different
areas of the building. Gabriella points to one showing Marrus
pacing back and forth in front of the computer terminal from
the teaser.
She picks up a small legend with the monitor numbers and the
corresponding rooms.
GABRIELLA
Looks like she's in the server room
on the third floor.
CONNOR
Hey.
Connor points to another monitor, this one showing Rebekah in
shackles. Gabriella checks the legend again.
GABRIELLA
That's a boiler room. Level B2.
CONNOR
Alright, I'll find her and get her
out of here.
Gabriella takes Kaia's arm.
GABRIELLA
We'll take Marrus. At the very
least, distract her long enough for
you to get her out of the building.
KAIA
(blinks)
We'll will?
Gabriella quirks her eyebrow at Kaia. Kaia sighs and nods.
CONNOR
Pike, stay here. Someone needs to
watch the monitors and spot any
trouble heading at either of us.
Pike points to Dare.
PIKE
Why can't the rookie do it?
DARE
You gonna leave me your guns?
Pike glances down at his guns and shakes his head.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - SECOND FLOOR - NEXT
Gabriella and Kaia stop at a door labeled 'server room.' Kaia
darts to the other side of the door.
Gabriella nods and Kaia nods back. They both turn and BURST
through the door:
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - SERVER ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Empty. Not a soul in sight. Kaia lightly sniffs the air.
KAIA
She's been here, but not for
awhile. At least a couple of hours.
GABRIELLA
That's impossible. We just saw her.
Kaia pulls out her phone and dials:
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - FIRST FLOOR - NEXT
Pike answers the call.
PIKE
How close are you?
KAIA (V.O.)
(through phone)
We're already there. The room's
empty.
Pike bends over and looks at the server room monitor again.
PIKE
I'm looking right at it. I see
Marrus pacing but-
He trails off when he notices something in the bottom right
corner. A timestamp. He checks the face of his phone.
PIKE
Oh Christ, it's a recording. At
least three hours old. That's what
we've been looking at.
KAIA (V.O.)
Then where's she really at?
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - LEVEL B2 - NEXT
Connor leads the way, his head craned up and darting left and
right, like a bird. He stops at a metal door leading to a
small room.
CONNOR
Wait here. Scream if you hear
anything.
Dare scoffs, but Connor doesn't notice.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - REBEKAH'S ROOM - CONTINUOUS
Rebekah, looking pale and ghostly, sits up when she sees
Connor enter.
REBEKAH
Connor?
Connor's across the room in a heartbeat, lifting the chains
holding Rebekah captive. He looks around the room.
CONNOR
I'm gonna get you out of here. Just
need to find something to get these
chains off first.
Unseen by him, Rebekah SMIRKS.
INSERT - OUTSIDE THE DOOR
Dare's eyes widen. She spins and flings the door open.
DARE
Connor, get back!
BACK TO SCENE
Connor looks up at her before an energy blast knocks him
clear across the room! Rebekah stands, holding the chains on
the tip of a finger.
REBEKAH
Oh, that won't be necessary. I
didn't lock them.
Connor is speechless. He tries to get up, but his legs fail
him and he falls back down. Dare rushes to his side.
REBEKAH
Better get up, Connor. You're
running out of time.
Rebekah's body starts to CONVULSE, like she's going to vomit.
She doubles over and the muscles in her back visibly bulge,
like a heartbeat.
Her eyes turn a slightly darker shade of blue. Her long brown
hair partially recedes into her head and changes to an auburn
red.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - FIRST FLOOR - SAME TIME
A horrified Pike, back in the lobby, watches the
transformation on the monitor.
PIKE
Oh my God.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - LEVEL B2
Connor's lips quiver. Dare's eyes are wide as saucers.
Rebekah's arms and legs shrink to a thinner frame. Her face
shifts as well. Through it all, she just LAUGHS-
- until it's Marrus left standing!
PUSH IN on Connor's shocked expression.
MARRUS
Letterman starts in a couple of
hours.
BLACK OUT.
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
FADE IN.
INT. CHEMISTRY BUILDING - FIRST FLOOR - NIGHT
Never taking his eyes off the monitor, Pike takes out his
phone, fumbles it for a second, and calls Kaia.
